Dr Elspeth Vischer is a filmmaker, writer and project coordinator based in Belfast.
Elspeth runs the production company Vish Films and specialises in non-fiction and experimental work that centres counter-hegemonic perspectives, particularly queer and intersectional feminist frameworks. To date Elspeth has had films screened at international festivals including Docs Ireland. Elspeth completed a Creative Practice PhD at Queen's University in 2023.
Her thesis feature Let Us Be Seen explores grassroots feminism in Belfast around the law change in 2019 to decriminalise abortion and legalise same-sex marriage. Both Let Us Be Seen (2022) and archival experimental short 'New Threads' (2022) can be viewed on the Digital Film Archive. Elspeth has had poetry published in Wordlife anthology and Pegged zine and has written for Ultra Dogme and academic journals as well as an Ekphrastic pamphlet produced by Queen's University and Dr Eva Isherwood Wallace, 'Queer Looking in the Museum' (May 2025).
Elspeth has coordinated the Northern Ireland Now Project with Nerve Centre and Northern Ireland Screen since October 2023. This project aims to diversify the Digital Film Archive through collaborative community engagement across Belfast and beyond.
